Philippine Dessert

Before Jack and I started our 8 hour drive to Bandon, Oregon a couple of weeks ago... we stopped by a small Philippine restaurant in Olympia, WA. It was so lovely in there. Great decor, jazz was playing, and the food was beautifully plated and just so good.
I ordered one of my favorite dishes: kare-kare - Oxtail simmered in peanut sauce, banana blossom, long beans and eggplant.
And since Jack already ate lunch with his co-workers, he wanted dessert. Of course he did. But it didn't keep him from diving into my plate.
He ordered the Buko Pie (Young coconut pie with a delicious flaky crust) topped with the ube ice cream. Ube is a purple yam that is used in many of the Philippine dessert. Jack now wants a gallon of this stuff.
Sometimes, it's nice to see a Philippine restaurant that's not turo-turo - we do have fine dining too. :) In fact, the restaurant owner told us that was their goal. Many of the Philippine restaurants in Manila are fine luxury restaurants.
