staples in our fridge & pantry:
king arthur white whole wheat flour: i store this in our freezer. i've been baking quite a bit lately and this seems to the best & healthiest flour to bake with. same texture as white flour (and can use the same measurements as white flour in baking) but still has the same nutrients from whole-wheat flour. genius.
cage free brown eggs: we've been buying these for a while now. one time, for emergency, we ended up with regular white eggs...and i swear, every other egg had 2 or 3 yolks in it. now in philippine culture, this would mean good luck. but i think this is only legit if the egg was handpicked straight out of under the chicken. otherwise, the horror of the reality that the double yolk means major hormones, animal by-products, and steroids injected into these chickens to lay bigger eggs and what not... no wonder it's been such a cancer society of late. http://www.nestfresh.com/faq.html but jack and i just were freaked out.
organic milk: jack is the only person who drinks milk in this household. and for awhile, he was fine with his regular 2% milk...but in the last couple of months, he asked me to buy the trader joe's organic. he told me he consumes so much milk that it's smart to just buy the organic so there's, at least, that very little chance he'll be exposed to hormone related cancers that are found in regular milk. besides, he remembers what those cows' udders looked like in the documentary, "the corporation." gross.
trader joe's low fat soy milk for me. i don't do cow's milk. my belly won't let me.
brown jasmine rice: i've forgotten how to cook with white rice really. i even cooked with brown rice in pittsburg. i only eat it at some restaurants but for the most part, even the asian restaurants here give you a choice whether or not you want brown or white rice.
earth balance natural buttery spread - nuff said
canola oil and olive oils (as well as the oil sprays)
oroweat winter wheat bread - love this loaf!
low sodium soy sauce
tamazula hot sauce the best hot sauce ever. it kicks tabasco's butt.
and for jack's morning coffee:
* torani coffee syrups (he's going through the list of flavors...right now he's doing almond rocha)
* coffee - whatever is on sale at the moment at the store. sometimes we buy seattle best, tully's, and right now, we have puroast low acid coffee that was on sale at albertson's.
there's also always garlic, tomatoes, and onions...otherwise known as the holy trinity of filipino cooking.
in the freezer: there's always chocolate ice cream. hee.
but yeah... i'm bored right now that's why this post. :P
