This year, Jack and I went home to the Asuncions and Lorthioirs for Thanksgiving.
And let me tell you, food is IT when it comes to Pinoy celebrations. The Lorthioirs have been deep frying Cajun turkeys for the last several years. My bro-in-law, Pascal, is the meister fryer...and he even makes it taste better when he is handed a couple of bottles of beer and a glass of wine while he does the turkey duties. Otherwise, Pinoy Thanksgiving is a mixture of Filipino & American dishes. Jack wasn't that surprised that there was no chocolate for dessert. He said he was prepared for it but there was a lot of sweet goodness of Ate Ling's banana puree with pecans, cream puffs, Ate Marian's ginatan (tapioca pearls, ube, langka, etc...), Auntie Bombing's sweet potatoes with marshmallows, and of course, Ate Ling's mocha flavored birthday cake.
I wish we can rewind because I could use some of that Thanksgiving meal again tonight.
